PIGEON PAPER CO.
With a background in studio art and a passion for handwork, Kim Lai graduated from FIT in 2008 and shortly afterwards began designing embroidery for top fashion houses in New York.
Inspired by vintage heirlooms, couture techniques, and beautiful florals, she created her own line of accessories in 2010. Her designs have been on the shelves of BHLDN, Bergdorf Goodman, and more.
Today, Bloom Bazaar is a place to discover the unexpected, whimsical and etheral; a little market filled with rare and lovely finds.
Discussion for a collaboration began in early 2019. Finding a way to merge two completely different industries into one proved to be the biggest hurdle to overcome before moving into the design phase. Our first goal was to create a product to accessorize planners, as well as having the versatility to be used on handbags, clothing and more without the fear of creating holes like enamel pins and brooches.
Our second goal was to successfully combine the whimsical features of Pigeon Paper Co. illustrations with the delicate and ethereal designs of Kim Lai. The very first design we began prototyping was our goldfish patch. We went through four prototypes before we were satisfied with the beadwork and fabric material.
